Pavel Haas Quartet has been named the recipient of the 2026 Antonín Dvořák Prize, one of the most significant awards in Czech classical music. The International Council of Academicians recognised the ensemble for its outstanding artistic contribution to Czech classical music and its distinguished presence on the international stage.
For many years, the Pavel Haas Quartet has ranked among the most prominent Czech chamber ensembles, enjoying an exceptional international reputation. The Quartet regularly performs at some of the world’s most prestigious venues, including Carnegie Hall in New York, Wigmore Hall in London, the Musikverein in Vienna and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. BBC Music Magazine named the ensemble among the ten greatest string quartets of all time, while its discography has received numerous accolades, including five Gramophone Awards.
Czech music, and the works of Antonín Dvořák in particular, hold an important place in the Quartet’s repertoire. In 2011, the Pavel Haas Quartet received the prestigious Gramophone Recording of the Year award for its recording of Dvořák’s String Quartets No. 12, “American”, and No. 13.
The Antonín Dvořák Prize will be formally presented to the Pavel Haas Quartet on 2 December 2026 in the Spanish Hall of Prague Castle. The ceremony will also feature a concert by Philharmonix with violinist Josef Špaček.
